Based upon a three-hour phone call with the legendary Marlene Dietrich when Lemper was just at the beginning of her career, and Dietrich, on the other hand, was looking back on a long and extraordinary life, this program explores the inner worlds of two icons and pays homage to Dietrich’s legacy through word and song. Lemper lends her distinctive flair and passionate style to a timeless repertoire of songs spanning from Dietrich’s Berlin cabaret years to later collaborations with artists such as Burt Bacharach in an intimate tale of bravery, love, loss, and stardom.
